(CAMPBELL,LANG)illus. UNCLE WIGGILY ORIGINAL ART for comic strip by Howard Garis. Garis originally created Uncle Wiggily for the Newark News newspaper comic strip in 1910 and it became so popular that it was nationally syndicated on a daily basis. Lang Campbell is the artist who drew the characters which later evolved into many books. Offered here are two pen and ink drawings on one sheet that appeared in the weekday newspapers in the 1920's. Each orignally accompanied an 800 word story by Garis. Each sheet has 2 individual images measuring together 7/1/4" wide by 4 1/2" on high quality paper, captioned in ink in Campbell's hand. Each is signed, and except for tiny pin-holes in the margins, the condition is fine with pencilled date and title of the story in the margins. Each panel features Uncle Wiggily (plus other characters). The images are remarkably detailed and amazingly have none of the usual white-out corrections that usually appear on these types of pieces. This is dated 1923 and accompanied Uncle Wiggily and the Noodle's Doughnut and Uncle Wiggily and the Cold Mouse.
