BLACK INTEREST (BANNERMAN IMITATION) JO-JO'T GRAPPIGE JAVAANTJE by Frans de Kanter. Alkmaar: Kluitman no date . 4to (7 1/4 x 9 1/2"), pictorial boards, light soil and wear, VG+. First edition. The story features Jojo, a little Javanese boy whose parents give him a new jacket, sarong and umbrella. When he goes out to play, a tiger, an elephant and a crocodile each take one of his new items leaving Jojo in tears. He returns home where his angry father helps to get the items back. Done in the same format as Sambo with each page of text in a bold font facing a full page color lithograph by the author. The clothing is Javanese but the characters, depicted stereotypically, are direct imitations of Bannerman's Sambo.
